Catholic Diocese Conducts Census Sundays

censusThe Catholic Diocese of Brownsville is launching Census Sundays in an effort to bolster census participation in areas that are still undercounted. In addition to announcements to parishioners, certain area churches will host drive-through events every weekend through Sept. 27.

“A vital part of the mission of the Church is to care for the people of God – all people – Catholic or not,” states a release from the Diocese. “To participate in the Census 2020 is an act of great solidarity with our brothers and sisters, many of whom will benefit from numerous programs funded according to the Census count conducted every ten years.”

Drive-through census events are as follows:

  • San Martin in Weslaco, Lady of Guadalupe in Mission and Sacred Heart in Elsa – Sept. 13
  • Our Lady of the Assumption in Harlingen, St. Benedict in San Benito, Alamo Resurrection – Sept. 20
  • Prince of Peace in Lyford, Sacred Heart in Escobares, San Felipe de Jesus in Brownsville – Sept. 27

The Catholic Diocese of Brownsville oversees the work of 72 parishes and 44 mission churches across the four RGV counties.
