Texas Master Naturalist Offers Volunteer Classes

Texas Master NaturalistThe Rio Grande Valley Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist is offering a new class session to their program of enlightening and educating a corps of volunteers about the natural resources of the Rio Grande Valley. Classes begin Jan. 15 and take place every Wednesday night for 10 weeks. Additionally, Sunday field trips will pair with the classes.

Most participants of this program volunteer at local state parks and wildlife refuges. They also participate in nature centers, nature festivals, clubs and organizations. It is an opportunity to learn about the plants, birds, butterflies and dragonflies, animals, trees, stars, geology, sea life and the other natural forces in the Valley from local professionals. Participants experience the relationship of these forces upon our parks and natural areas.

The second portion of the Texas Master Naturalist program is finding your niche where you enjoy volunteering, and sharing your knowledge and enthusiasm. Perhaps working with your hands is your talent and therapy, as there are plenty of reserves that need gardening, planting, trimming and watering.

Classes take place at the Cameron County Annex Building (Hwy 77/83 at Williams Street, San Benito) through March. Graduation is April 10.  This session is limited to 25 people with a tuition of $150 per person. There are scholarships available, with more information on the RGVCTMN webpage.  The registration application is under the Upcoming Classes tab.
