DESCRIPTION:Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Commissioner Everardo “Ever” Villarreal hosts a Breast Cancer Awareness Walk at 7:30 a.m. Oct. 30 to raise awareness\, celebrate survivorship and to hear testimonials of breast cancer survivors.  \n“These efforts are important to highlight during October\, but such efforts need to  extend throughout the year as well\,” said Villarreal. “We hope that this event will  serve as a reminder to both women and men that self-examinations and early  detection are the best protection against breast cancer.”  \nThe event is open to the public. Pre-walk opening remarks will begin at 8 a.m. at the Hidalgo County Precinct 3 Office.

DESCRIPTION:The National Butterfly Center hosts its free Texas Butterfly Festival Community Day Oct. 30 with activities\, vendors and exhibits. \nActivities include make your own Banana Brew\, ‘Butterfly U’ for Young Naturalists and ‘Wild Things’ Arts & Crafts. Attendees can also Hunt the Hackberry Trail\, Pin the Tail on the Swallowtail\, and climb all over our ‘Hungry Caterpillar’ playscape. \nVendors and exhibits will set up in the Visitor’s Pavilion and in the gardens for all to enjoy the peak of butterfly season in South Texas. \nAbout The National Butterfly Center\nEach year\, the National Butterfly Center provides engaging environmental education programs to thousands of children in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Proceeds from the Texas Butterfly Festival support high-quality\, conservation programs and provide scholarships to very low income students and schools.
