DESCRIPTION:Happy Birthday\, TexasFest 2024 takes place April 12-14 at Harlingen Field. \nEvents include three major Texas Revolution battle reenactments: the Battle of the Alamo and Gonzales on April 13\, and the Battle of San Jacinto on April 14. \nHappy Birthday\, TexasFest also features an IBCA State-Sanctioned BBQ State Championship Cook-Off\, and live music by San Benito High School Mariachi/Conjunto\, Los City Boys\, DV8 Band\, The Fabulous Cruisers Band and Carlos Cañas. Also at the event are food and craft vendors\, area school district performances\, Living History Day\, “Lone Star Dream” student’s musical\, student art show\, Studio 956 Aztec & Folkloric dancers\, Heritage Cultural performances\, Ballet Folklórico Tradición Mexicana\, a beer garden\, plus Tug-of-War by Frontline Warriors. \nPre-event weekend wristband tickets can be purchased for $3 until April 11. General admission at the gate will be $8 per day\, and veterans with service IDs get in for $4 per day. Gates will open at 1 p.m. on April 12; 10 a.m. on April 13 and 9 a.m. on April 14.

SUMMARY:National Civics Bee - Brownsville Local Competition
DESCRIPTION:The National Civics Bee in Brownsville is happening on April 13\, starting at noon at the Brownsville Events Center. Share your support and cheer on finalists as they compete for local acclaim to advance to the state competition and win cash prizes. \nThe Brownsville Civics Bee is one of many pilot National Civics Bee competitions promoted by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. At least 100 local middle school students participated in a first-round essay competition. Judges will select 20 students to advance to the local live competition: a live quiz event testing civics knowledge. \nStudents will be competing to win cash prizes and be named a Brownsville #NationalCivicsBee champion!
