This year brings the addition of the City of Edinburg\, bringing an additional kick-off event as well as additional gym locations available to participants in the Upper Rio Grande Valley. \nThe Challenge-RGV provides people with the tools and opportunities to make sustainable healthy lifestyle changes and lose weight when appropriate. Over the course of three months\, participants have free access to gyms\, exercise classes\, health screenings\, cooking classes and fun runs/walks. \nThis year\, organizers emphasize the importance of social support in overcoming obstacles and bringing mental health awareness with a theme of “interconnectedness.” Participants are encouraged to recruit their family\, friends and colleagues to register as a group. SUMMARY:42nd Annual Ladies Kingfish Tournament
DESCRIPTION:The 42nd annual Ladies Kingfish Tournament takes place Aug. 11-13 in South Padre Island. \nThe tournament is divided into two divisions\, Bay and Offshore. Anglers fishing in the Bay Division will vie for trophies in the categories of Redfish\, Trout and Flounder\, while anglers in the Offshore Division complete in the categories of Kingfish\, Bonito\, Blackfin Tuna and Dolphin. Trophies will be awarded to the first three places in each category and Grand Champion Bay and Grand Champion Offshore winners will also receive trophies. \nThe tournament kicks off Friday with check-in and on-site registration from 4-7 p.m. at the SPI Convention Centre. The BBQ dinner will be served 5-7 p.m.\, and bars\, bucket raffle\, and vendors will be available until 8 p.m. to give everyone a little extra time to visit\, purchase raffle tickets and shop. On Saturday\, fishing begins at 6:30 a.m. and Sea Ranch Marina II at SouthPoint is where all the action will be with Bay division weigh-in from 2-4 p.m. and Offshore weigh-in from 4-7 p.m. Sea Ranch Marina II at SouthPoint provides a large viewing and parking area for family and friends\, and anyone else that would like to see who brings in the biggest fish. The Sunday Awards Ceremony and Continental Breakfast will be held at SPI Convention Centre beginning at 11 a.m. All participants are invited to attend. \nRegistration\nRegistration fees are $100 per angler\, and includes an event bag\, Friday night BBQ and Continental Breakfast at the Sunday Awards Ceremony. Registration fee for captains/boat operators/deck hands/guests is $30 and includes\, Friday night BBQ and Continental Breakfast at the Awards Ceremony on Sunday.  All anglers and all captain/boat operators/deckhands/guests on the boat must be paid registrants of the tournament\, and have completed release forms on file with the SPI Chamber of Commerce. Tickets may also be purchased at the Merchandise Booth for the Friday night BBQ for $30 and Sunday for $15 per person for those not registered on a boat. DESCRIPTION:Tune up your wing-shooting skills before Whitewing-Dove Season at the North Brownsville Rotary Club’s ninth annual Whitewing Tune Up Shoot on Aug. 21. Proceeds go towards funding scholarships for area college-bound students. More than $250\,000 has been awarded since 1985. \nTrophies awarded for first-\, second- and third-place teams\, and first-\, second- and third-place individuals in men’s\, women’s and youth divisions\, plus Modified Lewis Class A\, B\, C and D winners. No experience is necessary as knowledgeable clay target shooters who will instruct participants. \nOrganizers will pair Individual participants with others to make up squads of five shooters. Practice rounds available on the Wednesday prior from 6 p.m. until closing at a special $6 per round. \nEntry fee includes participation in a multi-station sporting clay course\, BBQ meal and refreshments. Door prizes include ice chests\, a wine basket\, shotgun shells and beach gear.  Adult entry fee includes entry into the $1\,200 guaranteed payout Calcutta. Additional BBQ plates available for non-participants at $10 each. \nRegistration takes place from 8-10 a.m. Instructions to participants and commencement begins at 9 a.m. \nRaffle tickets are available from club members at $10 each for an adult Yildiz 12 Ga.
