SUMMARY:Walk For Women Silent Dance Party
DESCRIPTION:Walk For Women hosts a Silent Dance Party at Louie’s Backyard Oct. 10 with three channels of music to choose from. \nThe silent disco is an event where people dance to music listened to on wireless headphones. Rather than using a speaker system\, music is broadcast via a radio transmitter with the signal being picked up by wireless headphone receivers worn by the participants. Find someone with the same color headphones as yours and dance with them. \nIn addition to the Dance Party\, Walk For Women hosts a “Bucket Auction” with $5 tickets. Participants can put their ticket in any of 25-30 buckets for the item(s) displayed next to that bucket. Participants can also buy the “Arms Width” string of tickets. For $50\, they ca hold their arms out to the side as wide as they can and get a string of tickets as long as their arms. \nThe Dance Party will also include a live auction of four to five items\, including an artist’s original t-shirt artwork. \nAdmission is $20 per person and includes free hors d’oeuvres. Headphone rental for the Silent Dance is $10.

SUMMARY:Weslaco Museum Meet the Artist
DESCRIPTION:The Weslaco Museum welcomes a return exhibit with Rosendo Sandoval during the month of September. The public may meet the artist during a reception Sept. 9 at the museum. \n“Jim and Joann Farber have traveled far and wide during their 63 years of marriage. Throughout the years they have collected various artifacts from every country they have toured. Mexico became a favorite destination\, and the masks became a favorite collection. Many of these colorful masks will be sharing the Art Gallery with Sandoval’s art. \nSandoval was born in Tamaulipas\, México in 1957. When he was two years of age\, his family moved to the state of Nuevo León\, back to the place where they were from. His father died in 1968. This caused the family to immigrate to the United States two years later. Once they arrived in the U.S.\, they settled in Weslaco. \nAfter graduating from Weslaco High School in 1977\, he attended Pan American University where he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art in 1982. Later\, he decided to continue his education and received two masters’ degrees in Art: a Master of Science in Art from Texas A&I University in Kingsville and a Master of Fine Arts in Art from UTPA in Edinburg. \nToday\, Sandoval resides in Elsa\, Texas\, where he lives with his wife and kids. He works as a full-time art teacher for the Mercedes I.S.D. and paints in his spare time. \nThe Weslaco Museum is open 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday. Admission is $5 for adults\, $4 seniors\, $3 veterans and $3 students.
