Project MEND is expanding their services to veterans in need in the Rio Grande Valley and will be holding a Durable Medical Equipment Drive Feb. 22-23. Project MEND is currently in need of shower chairs, tub transfer benches and bedside commodes, as well as wheelchairs, rollators and home medical beds.
Donation acceptance hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to noon on Saturday at the Veterans War Memorial of Texas, 3129 Galveston Ave, in McAllen. Tax receipts will be provided.
Project MEND serves Texas veterans and their families at no cost and Texans in need for a nominal processing fee. It serves individuals living with disability and life-altering illness, regardless of their situation. Through their Medical Equipment Reuse program, gently used medical equipment is repaired, refurbished and sanitized and distributed to Texans in need.
Last year, more than 1,500 clients has service from Project MEND, with more than 3,000 pieces of equipment for an average cost savings of $1,200 per person.
