DESCRIPTION:The McAllen Chamber of Commerce hosts its October session of Latina Hope on Oct. 2. The competitive pitch program facilitates training\, networking and micro business development for Spanish-speaking women. \nThe program offers business workshops\, as well as specialized skill training in making candles\, cards\, jewelry\, soaps\, toys and wreaths. Latina Hope also offers classes in knitting/crocheting\, quilting\, sewing and alterations. \nAfter attending the training\, participants are given the opportunity to prepare and pitch a project plan for competition. Join John Brush at Quinta Mazatlán on Oct. 3 to learn about the characteristics of these habitats\, including common plants and rare plants found within. \nBrush is the urban ecologist at Quinta Mazatlán\, City of McAllen. Some of his plant-focused duties include implementing habitat creation projects\, developing and delivering native plant focused workshops and events\, and managing the park’s nascent native plant nursery. Brush received his Masters of Science in Biology from UT Rio Grande Valley.
