DESCRIPTION:Jaime Zepeda\, Educational Assistant with Gladys Porter Zoo\, shows off one of the bull snakes that will be visiting Quinta Mazatlán\nGladys Porter Zoo presents live reptiles at Quinta Mazatlan on July 7 with an up-close learning experience. \nThe Gladys Porter Zoo focuses on conservation\, education\, recreation and also serves as a wildlife rehabilitation center. Public outreach is an important aspect of the zoo’s overall mission and is a primary responsibility for Jaime Zepeda. Zepeda will present several species of reptiles\, turtles\, snakes and even an alligator (Alligator mississippiensis). Attendees will learn what makes these animals so unique and important. \nZepeda graduated from University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a bachelor degree in biology. He became a Texas Master Naturalist and volunteered at Gladys Porter Zoo prior to becoming permanent staff at the zoo. \nThursday Night Live takes place Thursday evenings through August from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sponsors are South Texas Health System Children’s and Freels Orthodontics. \nPark admission is $3 per person and can be pre-purchased at quintamazatlan.ticketleap.com. \nFor more information\, contact Quinta Mazatlán.

DESCRIPTION:Meet animals up close and learn more about them on July 21 for a bilingual demonstration by Contacto Animal at Quinta Mazatlán. Presentation begins at 7:30 p.m. in the park. \nAlejandro Millan\, director of Contacto Animal\, will talk about the unique traits and natural abilities of the animals. Alejandro was born in Mexico City\, and discovered his love and passions towards animals while working at a theme park. After a couple of years\, Millan moved to the city of Monterrey\, Nuevo Leon where he graduated with bachelors in biology and started working with animals in various city parks. Eventually\, he initiated his own business\, and today he is the director and founder of Contacto Animal USA. \nThe show was created to entertain and educate people on different animal species. Contacto Animal USA also provides presentations on topics regarding conservation\, management and environmental education. \nThursday Night LIVE takes place through Aug. 18. SUMMARY:Mothing by Moonlight at Quinta Mazatlan
DESCRIPTION:When the sun goes down\, the moths come out at Quinta Mazatlan. Join them for a special glimpse into the world of nocturnal insects on July 23 from 9 p.m. to midnight. \nA dimly lit trail will guide the guests through the Thorn Forest trails at Quinta Mazatlan to special Mothing Stations with knowledgeable naturalists. Guests should expect to see spiders\, scorpions\, frogs\, toads\, beetles and more. \nMcAllen’s Urban Ecologist John Brush shares\, “We are celebrating National Moth Week in the park. There are over 10\,000 species of moths in the United States and Canada\, with over 100\,000 worldwide.  Moths are the unseen pollinators of the night\, playing a huge role in helping plants reproduce and being important parts in food webs of many terrestrial ecosystems.” \nWear comfortable and protective outdoor clothing. Quinta Mazatlan recommends long pants and flat closed-toe walking shoes. They also ask guests to bring their own flashlights\, and prepare for biting insects by spraying before coming \nGuests are asked to remain on the walking trail and to be aware of their footing\, as forest areas will be dark. \nQuinta Mazatlan recommends patrons buy tickets in advance online.
