The City of McAllen is hosting this year’s Texas Festival & Events Association Annual Conference August 9-11 at the McAllen Convention Center. With more than 450 member festivals and events, organizers are expecting attendees from Texas and beyond. Attendees also hail from Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma and even Mexico. McAllen is the first city in the organization’s 26-year history to host two years in a row.
This year’s conference theme is “Ignite the Future. Ignite. Inspire. Imagine.”
The event features informative, entertaining and educational sessions. These serve to give festival and event coordinators the tools and tips to thus host bigger, better or smarter events.
The RGV is full of local festivals and events attendees will learn from. Yet attendees will also have access to learning about what goes into other festivals as well. These include the Tomball Rails & Tails Mudbug Festival, Fiesta Flambeau Parade, Fiesta Oyster Bake and Grape Fest in Grapevine, to name a few.
“Thanks to TFEA, our member organizations have been able to not only learn from the best of the best, but also, share ideas and make contacts that will help them in planning and managing their festivals and events into premier productions that their communities can be proud of,” said Mike Baxter, director of Marketing and Tourism, CFEE, for the City of Tomball and 2019 President of TFEA.
“The festivals and events that are celebrated in Texas are a reflection of the best of our cities, our people and our values. Aside from being economic generators for our cities, festivals and events bring families, friends and strangers together,” he said. “The presentations and sessions at the annual TFEA conference give us the tools, knowledge and ideas to do that even better.”
Additionally, event and festival vendors may participate in the conference’s trade show. It will feature around 45 vendors, including the famed RGV-based Rental World.
One of the speakers presenting at this year’s TFEA conference include Guy LaFlamme of Ottawa, Canada. Laflamme specializes in the creation, production and marketing of cultural, recreational and tourism products. With more than 25 years’ experience in the field, he has attended festivals and events in over 25 different countries. He also provides a global perspective on best practices in the industry.
