The annual Women of Purpose Social Mixer on March 4 hosted by IBC Main in McAllen was even more special than past years. Keynote speaker Dalia Martinez, IBC executive vice president, spoke from the heart about overcoming challenges to earn mentorship status. Adrian Villarreal, IBC McAllen president and CEO, also spoke. But the evening belonged to Dora Brown.
It was a retirement party.
After years of doing what she loves, Dora Brown, IBC senior vice president and marketing manager, recently decided it was time for the next chapters of her life.
“Help because you want to, not because you have to,” was a major take-away from Brown while on the stage. The Women of Purpose attendees not only heard but felt Brown’s heartfelt experiences during her selfless and tireless tenure at IBC. Over the years, Brown dedicated her wisdom, time and never-ending energy to thousands of people throughout the Rio Grande Valley.
Replacing Dora Brown is not possible. I can only wish IBC’s next marketing vice president will continue the legacy of professionalism, resiliency and class as Dora Brown, a friend to many including myself.
