University ranks sixth among 56 Texas universities
The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley is sixth in Texas for lowest student loan debt.
The ranking comes from LendEdu.com, which evaluated 56 colleges and universities using data licensed from Peterson’s, a college and graduate school resource for prospective students. The website ranked colleges in terms of average student loan debt, per borrower, at graduation for the Class of 2016.
The top-ranked Texas school is Paul Quinn College, while Baylor University is last on the list at 56. Overall for the schools evaluated, 60 percent of graduates had student debt with an the average owed $27,975.
At UTRGV, 58 percent of graduates had student debt, with an average debt per borrower of $15,731 upon graduation.
“Your school is doing a great job at helping students afford their college education without having to take on the significant amount of student debt that holds back so many young adults today,” according to a letter to UTRGV from the ranking organization.
