Families looking for the perfect fall photo shoot backdrop this season should make plans to visit the Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch. The McAllen location offering an unforgettable experience sits on Bensten Road between Lark and Auburn Ave. It certainly is a crowd pleaser, especially during the golden hour.

Melanie and Rick Vega first opened their McAllen location in 2017, and Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch has since then expanded. There is now a second and third location available to the public – one in Mission and one in Weslaco.

More than a pumpkin patch

As customers enter the pumpkin patch, the Vegases want them to know that they are there to bring families together. They want them to make memories while enjoying the farm.

Aside from having the typical pumpkin setup for photos, Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch also has activities the children can engage in for a more memorable experience. One of the biggest things that sets Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch apart from others in the area is the fact that it is a fully functioning farm. They also have a mini petting zoo and walking trails for guests. Baby goats and bunnies can be found in the corral along with other animals the kids adore.

“The kids can interact with the farm animals, play in the playground, and we also have barrel rides and hay rides available,” says organizer and developer Rick Vega.

When asked about the inspiration to open up Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch, their response is simple. “We love the farm as a family and wanted to share a little bit of the farm life.”

Everyone is welcome at the farm. The fee for adults is $8 per person, while kids ages 3 and below receive free admission. In addition to this, Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch is also great for photographers and serves as a great destination for school field trips.

The Mission location, also known as Maddie’s Mini Red Barn, is on Conway Avenue between 6 Mile and Highway 107. Their Weslaco location, Maddie’s Mini Farmhouse, has beautiful trails that make for a scenic route.

Maddie’s Pumpkin Patch opened their gates for the season Sept. 14 and will run all the way through Dec. 1.
