McAllen International Airport Flying High

McAllen International AirportIn 2019, record growth hit McAllen International Airport with 432,178 passenger boardings. This is a 20 percent increase from 2018 and also the highest number of enplanements in MFE’s history.

Over the last 20 years, MFE’s compounded annual growth rate in passenger enplanements has trended progressively steady at 1.4 percent. This steady growth has MFE as the leading airport in the Rio Grande Valley, capturing the majority of market share since 2012. Last year, 48 percent of the market share in the region also went to MFE.

Equally important is the market growth of the airlines serving MFE. Overall, seats in the market were up for American, United and Allegiant, resulting in double-digit growth in boardings for each of the airlines.

“We are proud of the strong relationships that we have forged with our airline partners. Our strong performance in 2019 reflects the success of these efforts. We remain committed to work alongside the airlines and understand how we can better serve our community,” said City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez, P.E.
