Nocturnal animals have many interesting adaptations that give them huge advantages to survive in their dark world. The Rio Grande Valley Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist invite the public to learn about these local creatures March 10 with “Creatures that Come out at Night.”

The talk will feature nocturnal animals and how you can see them for yourself. Attendees will discover native spiders, bugs, bats, birds and other animals that you might find at night in your backyard or local nature parks. Presenters are Joseph Connors and Jessica Tanguma, members of the South Texas Border Chapter of Texas Master Naturalist. 

Tanguma is also a program coordinator for the City of McAllen Parks and Recreation. She has worked at the McAllen Nature Center for four years and led various tours that includes night hikes through the nature center. She was a Texas State Park Ambassador and an alumnus Trainer. 

Connors is a native of the Rio Grande Valley. He enjoys observing and sharing the diversity of arachnids and insects of South Texas through his macro photography. He is a frequent contributor to citizen science on iNaturalist. 

The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Cameron County Annex Building at Williams Road and Hwy. 83/77 in San Benito. The public may also meet with chapter members at the 6:30 p.m. social. There is no charge or fee for this event.
