“Grill” the Competition at Texas Cook’Em

Texas Cook’EmRegistration is now open to outdoor and grill cooks for the 14th annual Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks. On July 6, competitors can battle it out for a $30,000 purse and bragging rights of the grill. Categories include rib-eye steak, pork spare ribs, chicken and brisket.

The Grand Champion will compete at the American Royal in Kansas City, Mo., in September. The Steak Champion also receives an invitation to compete at the SCA US Steak Championship with the best steak grillers in the circuit.

“Every year, the best of the best teams in Texas come to compete in Edinburg,” said Ronnie Larralde, executive director for the Edinburg Chamber of Commerce. “Although this event is absolutely free for the public to attend, it gives an economic boost to our community, not to mention it’s always a great time with family and friends celebrating 4th of July weekend.”

This year’s cook-off takes place at H-E-B Park, 1616 S. Raul Longoria Road in Edinburg. Texas Cook’Em is the first and only IBCA & SCA-sanctioned steak cook-off in South Texas. Steaks are provided by H-E-B, thus leveling the competitive playing field.

Teams pay $250 for all four categories in the competition.

Texas Cook’Em festivities also include free entertainment, vendors and a children’s fun area. Fireworks will kick off a free concert by Los Lonely Boys.
