New health clinic for veterans planned for McAllen

A new outpatient clinic is being planned by the Department of Veterans Affairs at the intersection of North McColl Road and East Hackberry Avenue in McAllen. The estimated building cost is $20 million and will create 217 construction jobs before completion in the summer of 2013.

The projected one-story building will include 51,675 square feet of space for specialty services for veterans, including “primary care, mental health, specialty care and diagnostic services.” It will replace the existing outpatient clinic and be leased by VA from the developer for a 20-year term.

The clinic will house outpatient services for more than 77,000 veterans annually in Hidalgo, Jim Hogg, Starr and Zapata counties.
