UTRGV residents train in six specialties
Beginning July 1, the Valley will have 56 new medical residents completing post-graduate training. The UTRGV School of Medicine residents span six specialties in hospitals across the area.
The residents received a welcome from the school during an orientation June 22-23 at the Edinburg Medical Education Building. The School of Medicine now has 140 medical residents in nine programs working at four area hospitals and other institutions.
Beginning next month, six residents will participate in the Family Medicine residency programs with McAllen Medical Center and Doctors Hospital at Renaissance; 10 in Internal Medicine at Valley Baptist Medical Center; 12 in Internal Medicine residency with DHR; and four in each of the Obstetrics and Gynecology and General Surgery residency programs at DHR.
In addition, six residents are in Family Medicine program at Knapp Medical Center; six in the Psychiatry medical residency program; and two in the Preventive Medicine residency program.
The Family Medicine at Knapp Medical Center, as well as the Psychiatry and Preventive Medicine residency programs are new to the SOM.
