DESCRIPTION:The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and the City of Edinburg host the 16th annual Texas Cook’Em: High Steaks on July 2 at Ebony Hills Golf Course. Headliner for the event is Los Palominos with openers Red Not Chili Peppers\, Draft\, Explosion Tejana and more. \nTexas Cook’Em is one of the state’s biggest BBQ purse\, awarding $25\,000 to winners. Competitors will battle it out on the grill to cook the best chicken\, ribs\, pork\, brisket and rib-eye steak. Winners will take home money and a year’s work of bragging rights. \nA portion of the event proceeds will benefit local veterans attending the University of Texas – Rio Grande Valley with scholarships. Texas Cook’Em has distributed over $20\,000 in scholarships locally. \nThis year’s festivities will begin at 10 a.m. Activities include live music\, vendors\, car show\, a children’s fun zone and food. \nAdmission to the concert is free. Andrews Center. \nThe local animal rescue provides lifesaving care\, comfort and compassion to animals in need by engaging the hearts\, hands and minds of our community. PVAS is celebrating its 15-year membership anniversary. \nPVAS serves five municipalities in Hidalgo County\, as well as the county at-large. It operates two facilities in Edinburg\, taking in approximately 25\,000 animals on behalf of 775\,000 residents each year. Cyber security expert Tom Ervin\, a computer scientist at FBI Headquarters San Antonio\, will conduct the presentation. \nErvin will discuss various cyber threats.This presentation will have a live demonstration of multiple malware\, threat vectors and provide examples of the ease at which attackers can compromise your data. \nAbout Tom Ervin\nErvin has been supporting the FBI with cyber forensics analysis for the past eight years. He specializes in computer intrusions and the dissection of computer viruses and worms. In 2000\, Ervin helped establish the FBI’s first malicious code laboratory at FBI Headquarters in Washington\, D.C.  He has been working at the San Antonio Division since 2010\, supporting the Cyber Squad on criminal and national security investigations.
