The Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement has proven to be a nimble workforce training program. In 25-plus years, it has been helping unemployed and underemployed residents land better-paying jobs. It demonstrated that again recently when VIDA launched an electrician journeyman training program. Nursing students at Texas State Technical College will be learning with some new equipment. Several grants are allowing for the purchase of a Nurse Anne simulator, a SimBaby simulator and a SimMom update, among other teaching essentials. The simulators, which mimic real patients, give students a real-world sense of their future careers. TSC HVAC students have the opportunity of learning the skills of their trade by training with industry-standard equipment and tools.

The Dual Enrollment program at Texas Southmost College is introducing three new pathways this spring to the thousands of high school students TSC serves who are working to earn college credits before receiving a high school diploma.  Computer-Aided Drafting Technology, and Industrial Mechanics and Maintenance Technology make up two of the newest offerings. UTRGV Invests $1.5M For Merit-Based Scholarships

UTRGV will invest $1.5 million to double the amount of merit-based scholarships available in Fall 2021. The additional funding comes in effort to retain top high school students from the region. The UTRGV Scholars Program currently awards 200 merit-based scholarships. Starting next fall, the program will double to have 400 merit-based scholarships available. Overall, over the course of the four-year scholarship program, UTRGV will invest a total of $8 million dollars.…
