The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board recently approved the degree proposal for a doctorate in human genetics for the UTRGV School of Medicine. The Brownsville Independent School District is the recipient of $2,412,000 from the Musk Foundation. Texas Southmost College joins the elite ranks this year of only nine percent of community colleges across the nation that saw an increase in enrollment. From fall 2019 to fall 2020, TSC’s Department of Institutional Planning, Research and Effectiveness reports that TSC’s enrollment has seen a 1.73 percent increase. The Valley Initiative for Development and Advancement has proven to be a nimble workforce training program. In 25-plus years, it has been helping unemployed and underemployed residents land better-paying jobs. It demonstrated that again recently when VIDA launched an electrician journeyman training program. Administrators at VIDA see the Liquefied Natural Gas project coming closer to reality at the Port of Brownsville. They recognize there is a growing market for electricians.…
