McAllen Public Library is holding its ninth annual Amnesty Month through May 4, offering patrons the opportunity to return overdue library materials without incurring fines. The month-long initiative aims at reclaiming overdue books, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays.
During Amnesty Month, patrons can return any overdue item to any of MPL’s three locations – Main (4001 N. 23rd Street), Lark (2601 Lark Ave.) or Palmview (3401 Jordan Rd. W) – regardless of how long it has been overdue, and have fines removed from their account. This initiative applies exclusively to currently checked out items.
Currently, families can also take part in Star Wars themed photo opportunities throughout the month of April. It leads up to May 4 when the library hosts family-friendly activities and photos with favorite Star Wars characters.
Library Director Kate Horan shared her insights on the initiative, stating, “Amnesty Month serves a dual purpose: encouraging the return of overdue items to our shelves while also welcoming back patrons who may have stayed away due to fines.”
