Valley Nature Poetry with Katherine Hoerth

$5Quinta Mazatlán World Birding Center hosts author and poet Katherine Hoerth Jan. 6 for a night of eco-poetry and special reading/book signing of her most recent publication “Prairie Madness.” The visit is part of the Nature Speaker Series at Quinta Mazatlán.
A McAllen native, Hoerth captures the culture of South Texas. She paints a lasting image of one of the most biologically diverse regions in the country, the Rio Grande Valley.
Hoerth is the author of five poetry collections, including Flare Stacks in Full Bloom, Borderland Mujeres, Prairie Madness and Goddess Wears Cowboy Boots. She is the 2015 recipient of the Helen C. Smith Prize for the best book of poetry in Texas. She is also the recipient of the 2021 Poetry of the Plains Prize from North Dakota State University Press. Her work has been published in numerous literary magazines including Summerset Review, Valparaiso Review and Southwestern American Literature. She is a member of the Texas Institute of Letters. In 2017, she joined the English department at Lamar University as an assistant professor of creative writing and editor-in-chief of Lamar University Literary Press.
Hoerth’s most recent publication Prairie Madness won the 2021 Poetry of Plains and Prairies Award from North Dakota State University Press.
