UTRGV Receives $1.5M NSF Grant

The National Science Foundation Division of Undergraduate Education has awarded UTRGV a $1.5 million grant to support a growing need for well-educated scientists, mathematicians, engineers and technicians. The UTRGV grant is now active and goes to a five-year project. It will fund scholarships for 60 full-time, first-generation college graduates pursuing a graduate degree in mathematics or physics. South Texas College is the recipient of a significant grant directly from the National Science Foundation to support students in STEM fields. The grant of $649,369 is part of NSF’s Scholarships in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (S-STEM) grant. The National Science Foundation has awarded the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley a $249,992 grant for the NSF INCLUDES Symposium for ADVANCING STEM Latinas in Academic Careers. The federal funds will be made available to UTRGV on Aug. 1. The funding allows UTRGV to place emphasis on increasing the number of Latinas in STEM workforce areas.
