TWC Awards STC Grant

The Texas Workforce Commission has awarded a $122,544 grant to The Division of Business, Public Safety and Technology at South Texas College is the recipient of a Texas Workforce Commission Grant. Funds will be used to conduct an eight-week training program that will cover basic maintenance of electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC&R) and construction systems. Texas Economy Continues to Grow in April

The Texas economy added 39,600 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs in April, which marked 22 consecutive months of employment growth. Over the year, Texas added 332,300 jobs for an annual employment growth rate of 2.7 percent in April. Private sector employers added 37,900 positions over the month. Summer Program Connects Disabled Students With Jobs

The Texas Workforce Commission has kicked off its 2018 Summer Earn and Learn program which provides students with disabilities with both work readiness training and paid work experience. The program is a partnership between TWC, Texas Workforce Solutions Offices and Texas Workforce Solutions-Vocational Rehabilitation Services. Texas’ seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.0 percent in January and remains below the U.S. unemployment rate of 4.1 percent. The Texas economy added 240,500 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs over the year. This includes 16,000 jobs added in January.
