Robert “Bobby” Calvillo is the board chairman of the Weslaco Area Chamber of Commerce for the 2019-2020 fiscal year. He began his service on the Weslaco Chamber board in 2015.

For the last 23 years, Calvillo has served as executive director of Affordable Homes of South Texas Inc. AHSTI is one of the largest non-profit housing producers in the country. It serves as a subdivision developer, builder and mortgage company exclusively for low income families in the area. He also serves as chief executive officer of TuCasa Investments Inc., a for-profit social enterprise holding company of AHSTI.

Calvillo looks forward to the upcoming year of leading the chamber during Weslaco’s centennial year.

“It’s a milestone year for the city and I’m really looking forward to that opportunity,” said Calvillo. “I’m from Weslaco, and I want to make sure our community is vibrant and continues to grow. It’s a great place to live, work and do business.”

There will be an addition of three new board members this year. Calvillo is also looking forward to working with them.

“I’m looking forward to the fact that we’re going to have new board members joining us this year, along with the remaining board members that are already amazing as it is,” added Calvillo. “With the new president/CEO [Barbara Jean Garza] along with the great staff that we have, we’re in for some great things this year.”

Among his current activities, Calvillo is a board member of the Housing Assistance Council (Washington, DC) and an advisory board member of Navy Army Community Credit Union. He recently retired after 12 years of service as vice chairman of the Catholic Diocese of Brownsville’s housing ministry.
