Registration is now open to bikers, walkers and runners for Keep McAllen Beautiful’s 13th annual Arbor Day Celebration taking place Nov. 2 at Westside Park. The run, bike, and walk event benefits everyone and helps KMB, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization, increase awareness of the importance of planting and caring for trees in McAllen.
The day will begin with a 25 mile/100K bike ride, 5K run, 10K run, a kids’ fun run and an ongoing Tree Workshop.
The 25-mile bike ride features a scenic journey past several city parks with the turn-around point at Tres Lagos Park on Ware Road. The 100k cyclists will continue through some of the Rio Grande Valley’s most beautiful and tranquil agricultural areas, past the historic Moore Air Base then on to McCook.
For the 5K and 10K runs, the location will be a dual terrain run, where runners will have the opportunity to run on the street and then course through the trail run surrounded by wonderful natural beauty at the McAllen Nature Center for a truly unique experience. The Kids’ Fun Run will take place around the Westside Park’s baseball field.
The new location of Westside Park at 1000 South Ware Road will also feature more experiences for participants, including music and educational booths. Entrance to the park and Arbor Day activities is free for all non-participants, and attendees will get to take home a native tree.
All registered event finishers will receive a medal. Registration is now open at keepmcallenbeautiful.org. Anyone interested in participating is encouraged to register early before the free Arbor Day T-shirt deadline, which is Oct. 13.
Sponsorship and volunteer opportunities are also available as well. For more information, visit the KMB website or call 956-681-4562.
