VA Hosts Local Blood Drives

blood driveVeterans and community members are encouraged to “Roll Up Your Sleeve” and give the gift of life during VA blood drives Dec. 13 and Jan. 14 in McAllen and Harlingen, respectively.

The Dec. 13 drive takes place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the McAllen VA Outpatient Clinic at 901 East Hackberry Ave. Jan 14’s drive is from 9 a.m. to noon at the Harlingen VA Outpatient Clinic, 2106 Treasure Hills Blvd.

The blood drives are a partnership between Vitalant Blood Center and VA Texas Valley Coastal Bend Health Care System. The series is part of a nationwide effort by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to address the on-going need for blood.

Donors must show ID in order to participate. Walk-in donations will be accepted, online registration is also available.

“We are a proud member of the Rio Grande Valley community and are doing our part to meet the constant need for blood and blood products.” said Public Affairs Officer Hugo Martinez. “We ask Veterans, family members, and all members of the community make the time to donate blood.”
