The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce and the City of Edinburg are now accepting community entries for its Edinburg Night of Lights Parade. Individuals, schools, businesses and organizations may participate in the festivities with this year’s theme “A Storybook Christmas.”
The parade of brightly decorated floats and a visit from Santa Claus rolls on Dec. 2 at 7 p.m. The parade route will be along North Closner Boulevard beginning at the corner of Mark S. Pena Drive and North Closner Blvd. (Richard Flores Stadium). It will end on the corner of West McIntyre Street and North Closner Blvd. (Museum of South Texas History).
The Edinburg Chamber hopes to inspire the imaginations of children and promote the joy of reading by having participants decorate floats in the theme of their favorite children’s stories. In the holiday spirit, the chamber asks participants to enhance their stories with festive cheer. For example, if the book selected is Winnie the Pooh, they would hope to see Pooh Bear with a Santa hat and float adorned with twinkling lights, a wreath or some other form of holiday cheer.
Award trophies and prize money will go to competitive floats for first, second and third places in Business/Civic, School and Marching Band divisions.
All participants must fill out a parade application and adhere to the parade theme.
