The Edinburg Chamber of Commerce recently hosted its inaugural RGV Chamber of Commerce Alliance Breakfast on Oct. 17. The private event hosted over 12 local chambers from throughout the Rio Grande Valley at the Edinburg Conference Center at Renaissance.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott proclaimed Oct. 17-21 as Texas Chamber of Commerce Week. The Edinburg Chamber led the efforts regionally by bringing together area chambers by recognizing their efforts in advancing commerce in South Texas.
In attendance was Senator Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, who stressed the important role chamber of commerce plays to continue to expand the economy in the Rio Grande Valley.
“Chambers play a key role in our community, without their feedback and leadership the Texas Legislature could not address issues that impact our economy,” said Hinojosa.
Also discussed during the event were the efforts for RGV Day in Austin scheduled for the 2023 Legislative Session. Leading RGV Day in Austin initiatives is the RGV Partnership. These initiatives will allow community leaders to visit the state capitol to address legislative policy affecting the area.
Drew Scheberle, executive director at the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives, visited with RGV chambers to explore the economic drivers of the RGV. Following the morning meeting, the Edinburg Chamber staff guided Scheberle on a tour of Hidalgo County and made stops at the Pharr International Bridge, Mcallen Convention Center and Mission’s Industrial Park.
RGV chambers plan to meet on a quarterly basis to address issues facing the RGV as a whole.
