Port of Brownsville Honors High School Graduates

2023 Port of Brownsville Scholarship recipientsThirty-two local high school graduating seniors will receive $1,000 scholarships from the Brownsville Navigation District via the 2023 Port of Brownsville Scholarship. The program is in support and encouragement to the pursuit of higher education for students within the district.

The scholarship winners – selected for their academic performance, community involvement, extracurricular activities, and work experience, as well as for essays penned as part of their applications – attend 16 public and private high schools in the Brownsville and Los Fresnos area.

“On behalf of the Brownsville Navigation District, we congratulate these students on their commitment to continue their education and learning the skills they need to thrive in the workforce,” said BND Chairman Esteban Guerra. “The Port of Brownsville is proud to champion our next generation of leaders as they prepare for a bright future.”

Since its inception in 2020 by the BND Board of Commissioners, the program has awarded $126,000 benefiting 126 high school students.

The 32 graduating seniors eligible for the Port of Brownsville scholarships include:

Brownsville Independent School District

  • Brownsville Early College High School: Joshua Rodriguez and Allision Marie Silva
  • Gladys Porter Early College High School: Ezra Esquivel and Ebany LeAnn Mendoza
  • Homer Hanna Early College High School: Yvannia Paola Mata and Juan Roberto Rivera
  • James Pace Early College High School: Yazmin Ramos and Maritza Cantu
  • Lopez Early College High School: Julissa Amaro Castillo and Jose Hernandez
  • Simon Rivera Early College High School: Mia Botello and Emily Marie Morales
  • Veterans Memorial Early College High School: Daniela Rivera Alanis and Valeria Perez
  • First Baptist School: Abagail Galvan and Felipe Sanchez

Harmony Public Schools

  • Harmony School of Innovation: Carlos Acalo and Gabriel Kaye

Idea Public Schools
