Quinta Mazatlan is inviting the public to join them in celebrating Native Plant Month by participating in the Native Garden Contest. People across the Rio Grande Valley may submit entries as a way to encourage and inspire others to use native plants in their spaces, whether in pots, yards or for entire landscaping projects.

Anyone who has put effort into adding native plants to their space are welcome to submit an entry into the free contest. Winners will receive two tickets to the Planta Nativa Social on Oct. 26 (6:30-9:30 p.m.), as well as two Quinta Mazatlan t-shirts, a certificate and a homegrown native plant. All entries must be emailed to the Center for Urban Ecology at center4urbanecology@gmail.com by Oct. 21.

Entries must include the gardeners name, address, email and cell phone number. They must also provide answers to the following questions:

1. How would you theme/title your garden?

2. What is special about your garden?

3. What are a couple of your favorite native plants in your garden?

4. What motivated you to use native plants?

5. What wildlife are you seeing or trying to support with your garden?

Up to five accompanying photos of the garden should be attached to the email entry. Casual mobile phone photos are welcome and should feature an overview of the native garden, a close-up of a native plant or garden section, and should capture the theme/title of the garden. Contestants may include photos of themselves and/or their family in the garden as well.
