The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has appointed Tom Castañeda as chairman, reinforcing the organization’s commitment to regional advocacy and economic growth.
Castañeda, system director of marketing and public relations for South Texas Health System, brings experience in journalism, marketing and communications. A Rio Grande Valley native, he has led marketing, advertising, community engagement and public relations for the system’s 12 facilities since 2020.
“The RGV Hispanic Chamber, the Rio Grande Valley’s only region-wide chamber of commerce, serves as a leading advocate and connector for businesses across all four counties,” Castañeda said. “Our mission is simple yet powerful: to advocate, connect and empower so the Valley can continue to thrive.”
Highlighting the Chamber’s role in today’s business climate, Castañeda emphasized continued advocacy and partnership.
“The Chamber serves as the region’s unified voice, championing the interests of businesses across the Rio Grande Valley,” he said. “We’ll advance the business community by elevating employer priorities, engaging with policymakers and fostering partnerships that support a competitive, business-friendly environment.”
He also encouraged businesses to engage with the organization’s growing network.
“When you join the RGV Hispanic Chamber, your voice resonates louder, your connections expand and your opportunities multiply through strategic collaboration,” Castañeda said.
As chairman, Castañeda will focus on strengthening relationships, guiding the board’s long-term vision and ensuring leadership continuity.
“Transitions are most effective when they honor the past while embracing the future,” he said. “Together, we will build on a strong foundation and position the organization for continued growth.”
Castañeda added that his commitment to chamber service is rooted in his family’s entrepreneurial background.
“They taught me the value of thinking boldly, working with purpose and leading with resilience,” he said.
“Under Tom’s leadership, the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is poised to expand its impact across the region,” said Cynthia Sakulenzki, president and CEO of the RGV Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “His strategic vision, collaborative leadership style and deep understanding of our community position the chamber for its next chapter of growth and opportunity.”
