STC Makes Call for Youngsters’ Poems, Artwork

STC Art & Memory Conference & ExhibitionYouth ages 6-18 throughout the Rio Grande Valley are invited to participate in the South Texas College 2024 Art & Memory Conference & Exhibition.

The STC Library Art Gallery is collaborating with STC’s Philosophy, Art and English departments to organize a youth call for artwork and poetry that focuses on a significant experience or emotion from the artist’s childhood or teenage years.

These submissions will be included in STC’s third annual Art & Memory Conference April 2-4.

Andrés Molina Ochoa, conference organizer and STC assistant professor of Philosophy, invites the public to dive into the realms of memory through artistic interpretation.

“This is the chance to illustrate moments, emotions and scenes that have left an indelible mark on the heart,” he said. “Let drawings and poetry become a window to the past, a visual memoir that speaks to the power of art in preserving cherished memories.”

The deadline to submit artwork is Feb. 12 at 5 p.m. Artwork must be framed and an entry form must accompany all entries.

More information on submitting artwork and poems and an entry form are available online.
