The 2019 Commemorative Air Force Air Show will happen this weekend at the Port Isabel/Cameron County Airport. Locals and tourists alike can head out to enjoy aerobatic flybys and war-like aerobatic displays above the wide skies of this part of South Texas.

Some 20 vintage aircraft will participate in the two-day event on June 22-23 at the airport located between the Towns of Bayview and Laguna Vista on West FM 106. That’s 28 miles from Harlingen, 31 miles northeast of Brownsville and 18 miles from South Padre Island. From Los Fresnos, it’s about 13 miles via Old Port Isabel Road and about 62 miles from McAllen.

David Hughston, chairman of the CAF Rio Grande Valley Wing, says this is the first time the air show is being held at the county airport. Brownsville was host for the CAF Air Show for 20 years as Air Fiesta. The show relocated to the new headquarters in 2018.

The gates will open at 9 a.m. and the flying time will start at noon on both days.

Hughston said there will be a number of activities. These include a modern aircraft display, a flea market, food booths and other events.

Lawn chairs are welcome but leave your coolers and snacks behind as they will not be allowed.
