A produce distribution drive-through takes place Sept. 10 to provide free fruits and vegetables to veterans. The event is made possible via a partnership between VA Texas Valley Costal Bend Health Care System and the Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley.
Food insecurity is a serious issue affecting many Americans either daily or at the end of the month when financial resources are exhausted. Food insecurity is especially prevalent among veterans who are homeless or at risk of homelessness. It’s also an issue among those who have recently moved into transitional or supportive housing.
The drive will be from 9-11 a.m. (or while supplies last) at the McAllen VA Outpatient Clinic, 901 East Hackberry Ave. Those partaking should use the entrance to the clinic off of Jasmine Avenue and then follow directional signage. Veterans must present a valid VA identification card to confirm their veteran status.
