National produce distributor PRO*ACT invites qualifying local farms to apply for up to $30,000 from their grant program, Cultivating Change. The program offers a total of $85,000 to farms looking to fund new and innovative projects,
The application process is currently open through Dec. 15. Afterwards, a group of industry professionals will conduct a panel review, while the general public votes on their favorites. Both voting and panel review will conclude on Jan. 31, 2019. The winners will be announced on Feb. 4.
Greener Fields Together local farm partners are automatically eligible to participate in both the popular vote contest and panel review process. Local farms that are not part of Greener Fields Together are able to apply and win via the popular vote contest when they meet these requirements.
At the end of this grant cycle, PRO*ACT will have invested over $300,000 in projects through Cultivating Change grants, positively impacting local farms, families, and communities throughout the country. From microgreens to watermelons, farmers of all backgrounds have been able to meet their improvement and sustainability.
Locally, a past winner of the grant is Mission-based PPC Farms, which took in $10,000 earlier this year. The farm used the funds to protect their crops from various pests and diseases without the use of pesticides and fungicides.
