SWG Engineering LLC, a local civil engineering firm, was recently distinguished by two national organizations for the solutions it provided Rio Grande Valley municipalities in 2019.
The American Society of Civil Engineers Rio Grande Valley Branch presented SWG with the 2019 Innovative Project of the Year award. The recognition comes for the firm’s canal-to-pipeline conversion for the Delta Lake Irrigation District.

SWG turned the A-20 open canal into 4.5 miles of pipeline. It replaced multiple system pumps with a single station containing new variable frequency drive motors and pumps. This will thus result in multiple electric savings for the district. The new pipeline prevents water seepage and will also result in annual water savings for the residents it serves. It will also make the water supply more reliable and even benefit the habitat.
Additionally, ASCE-RGV gave SWG President Randall Winston the 2019 Civil Engineer of the Year award. The award recognizes his leadership in improving public works. Winston is a Valley native as well as a Mercedes High School graduate and Texas A&M University alumnus.
Engineering Firm of the Year
SWG is also the recipient of the Associated General Contractors of America Rio Grande Valley Chapter’s 2019 Engineering Firm of the Year award. The recognition came Jan. 31 for applying resourceful and cost-effective strategies for civil construction projects.
According to Winston, the entire SWG team is honored by all the current awards.
“These awards validate the work we do every day, which really is to help improve the quality of life in the Lower Rio Grande Valley communities and beyond,” Winston said. “I’m proud that the organizations recognized our experience and our ability to overcome challenges.”
