Christmas in JulyThe “Shopping Event of the Year” takes place July 27 at Lamar Academy, 1009 N. 10th Street in McAllenChristmas in July at IB Festive Market is bringing in close to 100 local vendors and local service providers focused on mind, body and spirit. The event is a win-win for shoppers and McAllen ISD students. Student organizations benefit financially from the market while shoppers receive free admission to a one-stop local shop.

From 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Christmas in July patrons can browse and shop an array of products including locally-made aloe vera products, accessories, clothing, Scentsy, hand-sewn items, school/teacher gifts, and classroom decorations and materials. Vendors will also be selling colorful handcrafted items from Paraguay, mesquite cutting boards, essential oils, make-up, books and Tupperware. Succulents designed by an artist are part of even more offerings. A McAllen ISD student organization will also host a rummage sale on site.

In a new twist for this market, service providers will be on hand to offer professional services. These include financial planners, attorneys who specialize in estate planning, and health-care and weight-loss facilities. Local banks will also be set up, along with health insurance specialists for those who are Medicare eligible, a school-employee union, and a telephone and internet provider. For those with an interest of working the U.S. Census, representatives from the census will be accepting applications.

If shopping works up an appetite, the market offers a variety of food. Items include turkey legs, barbecue favorites, freshly-squeezed lemonade and vegan favorites. Desserts are also on the menu with baked goods and sweets.
