STC and Universidad Tamaulipeca Form Partnership

South Texas College and Universidad Tamaulipeca have signed a general collaboration agreement to create tools for training through the use of a unique bi-national partnership at least three years in the making. VITA Assists With Free Tax Returns

The VITA program will be at STC until March 8 to assist with tax returns.

The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is currently offering free income tax service at South Texas College. VITA works in cooperation with United Way of South Texas and the Internal Revenue Service. The program offers free tax assistance to people who make approximately $55,000 or less. TWC Awards STC more than $1.3 million

On Jan. 11, South Texas College had a “million-dollar morning” with three Texas Workforce Commission grants totaling more than $1.3 million. The award includes a $249,096 Job and Education for Texas grant, as well as $655,153 to STC’s Healthcare and Social Assistance Consortium. The consortium will create and upgrade 1,167 jobs. The Economic Development Corporation of McAllen presents South Texas College with a job-training grant to provide customized training related to advanced manufacturing within the city’s boundaries.

McAllen’s advanced manufacturing sector has received a boost thanks to a $259,440 job-training grant to South Texas College. Funds from the McAllen Development Corporation grant will provide customized training, as well as equipment, salaries and supplies. Three new members are now part of the 2018-2019 Weslaco Chamber of Commerce board of directors.
