McAllen Public Utility and International Museum of Art & Science invite the community to celebrate World Water Day at the museum on March 19. The annual event is a collaborative effort between both organizations to honor World Water Day, which takes place internationally on March 22.

Admission is free to the public courtesy of McAllen Public Utility.

From 1-5 p.m., visitors will be able to make a hummingbird feeder, take part in watershed demonstrations, and build their water knowledge with a special version of lotería. A small pop-up market will feature engineering firm booths and a few local vendors, including One Up Mushroom Products, Nature’s Heart Land Farm, and US Citrus.

About World Water Day

The United Nations’ World Water Day raises awareness of people who live without access to safe water. This year’s theme encourages everyone to take responsibility for conservation by uniting around water as a universal resource. As explained on the UN Water website, “This World Water Day is about accelerating change to solve the water and sanitation crisis. And because water affects us all, we need everyone to take action. That means you! You and your family, school and community can make a difference by changing the way you use, consume and manage water in your lives.”

“World Water Day helps us celebrate and learn how to appreciate one of our most precious resources.” shares Jessica Salinas, McAllen Public Utility Water Education and Communication Coordinator. “We all must do our part and stay aware of the issues surrounding water use and conservation globally.”

Salinas will conduct a presentation on the local water treatment system entitled “From Source to Tap” at 2 p.m. Visitors may also enter to win various raffle items from McAllen Public Utility throughout the event.
