Blast off back to school with the IMAS and McAllen Public Utility on Aug. 14. This event features hands-on art and science activities in celebration of the James Webb Space Telescope’s first images. The event also includes community tables, free books and planetarium presentations. A virtual Webb Expert Panel takes place at 2:30 p.m. This is event is free for McAllen residents. |

The Brownsville Chamber of Commerce celebrates its 85th Anniversary with a black-tie gala at the Brownsville Events Center on Aug. 18. Since 1937, the Brownsville Chamber of Commerce has been the community's leading membership-driven advocate and champion for business. Its primary objective is to create a climate of growth and success in our community. Individual chamber member tickets are $100 each; non-member $125 each. Register online or contact the chamber. |

Food Park Unplugged takes place every third Friday at McAllen Food Park at 10 North Broadway. The Aug. 19 installment includes the regular lineup of live music and dishes by food truck chefs. Patrons may also shop local craft and collectibles vendors. This event is family and pet friendly. Free admission into the park. For more information, call the McAllen Chamber of Commerce.

The City of Mercedes hosts its 14th annual Texas Street Festival on Sept. 3 in historic downtown Mercedes. The day includes live music, food and drinks, children’s activities, crafts, professional wrestling and a car show. Live performers include Control and Bobby Pulido. Proceeds from the festival will help support the Mercedes Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Program benefiting students from all Mercedes high schools. |
