Summer is in full swing and camps are the way to go for many students. This summer, UTRGV has added summer camps and programs in Brownsville and South Padre Island. Topics range from marine science to teaching to chess.

Upcoming camps taking place throughout June and July include:

  • Marine Science Summer Day, South Padre Island – The School of Earth, Environmental and Marine Sciences offers two summer camps in June and July. There will be a Coastal Youth Camp for ages 7 to 13, Thursdays and Fridays in June and July. A Coastal Teen Camp for students 13-18 years of age takes place July 29 and July 30. Camp activities include a trip aboard the R/V Ridley Floating Classroom, dissection activity and a museum/aquarium tour. Students also will tour Sea Turtle Inc. and the SPI Birding Center.
  • Summer Chess Camp – The UTRGV Chess Team hosts a summer camp July 15-19, for students and adults. Students can improve chess skills, learn the game of chess and help promote chess in the community.
  • STEM Summer Camp – Students will discover the world of science through hands-on activities such as extracting DNA from a strawberry. The four-day camp also will teach concepts from various fields of science. The camp will take place July 22 through July 25.
