At a recent city commission meeting, Pharr Mayor Pro-Tem Bobby Carillo introduced Alex Meade as Pharr’s new city manager. Meade recently served as the first CEO for Mission Economic Development Corporation, helping attract projects totaling more than $300 million. Meade also established the Center for Education and Economic Development (CEED) in Mission.
“Alex Meade has a history of success of helping communities across South Texas expand their capacity for growth to be ready and competitive,” said Mayor Pro-Tem Bobby Carillo. “He is an innovative, forward-thinking, well-respected professional, whose education and professional experience make him an ideal fit for us here in Pharr.”
Meade says he is impressed with the level of professionalism and expertise among Pharr’s department directors and employees. He adds he is eager to get to work with them to move the city commission’s vision forward.
“I am excited to join this community to further develop this regional vision of opportunity and prosperity for our Pharr community and our Pharr families,” Meade stated. “As city manager, I am excited to work with the mayor, city commission, administration, and city employees to implement new ideas and governing strategies to improve and streamline city services and programs, thereby benefiting our quality of services and the community at large.”
Prior to his tenure with Mission EDC, Meade was principal at P3 Economics. Here he consulted multiple communities across South Texas, providing strategic planning, site selection and business development services. Meade has also been recognized for his leadership at the state level, including a recent appointment by Governor Greg Abbott to the Texas State Technical College System Board of Regents. Previously, Abbott also appointed him to the Texas Economic Development Corporation.
