The Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce will soon be recognizing 10 area women representing various social and professional fields with the 2026 Women of Distinction Awards. The presentation will take place during the annual Hats Off to Women of Distinction Awards & Expo on March 5 at the Mission Event Center (200 N. Shary Road).
The Women of Distinction Awards celebrate women whose leadership, innovation and service are shaping the Rio Grande Valley across business, education, healthcare, media, justice, environmental advancement and community development. Honorees are nominated by members of the Rio Grande Valley community and selected by the Rio Grande Valley Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Women’s Initiatives Committee.
The 2026 Women of Distinction Award recipients are:

- Diversity & Inclusion: Sonia Quintero
- Emerging Leader: Karla Garza
- Media & Journalism: Benita Mendel
- Environmental & Agricultural Achievement: Wendy Knight
- STEM & Digital Innovation: Dr. Cristina Villalobos
- Justice & Legal Advocacy: Renee Rodriguez-Betancourt
- Community & Social Leadership: Rashmi Chandran
- Educational Innovation: Jennifer Mendoza
- Healthcare Champion: Thalia Munoz
The awards presentation will take place during an evening program at the Hats Off to Women of Distinction Awards & Expo, bringing together regional leaders, entrepreneurs and community advocates to recognize these women whose work strengthens the regional economy and expands opportunity throughout South Texas.
