Mercedes ISD, Progreso ISD, Santa Rosa ISD and Vanguard Academy recently received a combined $1,940,000 in state funding through the Texas Education Agency’s Community Partnerships Grant.
According to TEA, the funding supports significant improvements in educational and developmental outcomes for children by expanding access to wraparound services, strengthening family and community partnerships, and increasing access to academic supports.
“Communities will soon have access to local and regional resources that will have an impact on students’ academic success,” said Dr. Raul Nava, Region One ESC director for Community Partnerships Technical Assistsance. “Families can expect more support for students and a positive impact on student success.”
The initiative takes a comprehensive approach to student achievement by deepening parental involvement in academic planning and decision-making, reinforcing instructional strategies that improve performance on state assessments, and strengthening daily attendance habits. In addition, districts will expand adult education opportunities and create clearer pathways to high-demand, sustainable careers, ensuring academic progress is supported beyond the classroom and across the entire family.
“When schools and families work together with shared purpose, we build a stronger foundation for student and community success,” said Dr. Alicia Noyola, Mercedes ISD Interim Superintendent of Schools. “This grant reflects the importance of creating welcoming spaces that provide meaningful parent resources, support collaboration, and connect family engagement with student learning and achievement.”
Last school year, La Villa ISD, Monte Alto ISD and Raymondville ISD participated in the initiative.
