South Texas College continues to expand its reach across the border with its fourth Dual Credit Programs partnership that will make a college education more affordable and accessible to high school students in Reynosa.
The Non-Resident Memorandum of Understanding notes that the objective is to guide juniors and seniors at Integrity School toward general education, or core completion, while in high school. The partnership will help them gain a foundation of knowledge in their pursuit of a higher education.
STC President Ricardo J. Solis said that dual credit partnerships are some of the most important because they plant the seed of a higher education and the possibilities of a successful career at a crucial age.
“It’s an honor to have Integrity School as a partner,” said Solis. “South Texas College is committed to creating educational opportunities for students and strengthen college readiness for all students in our region and beyond. We look forward to moving this partnership forward and providing the best quality education. This collaboration is going to be life-changing for many students and their families.”
Making College More Attainable
Head of Integrity School David Martinez Longoria said he’s excited to be working with STC and connecting his students to higher education in the United States.
“Many of our students seek degrees in the states, in fact, many have enrolled and graduated from STC, but this collaboration, this partnership, is going to open this opportunity to many more of our students,” said Martinez Longoria. “This is a big deal for all of us involved and is going to bring the possibility of college closer to our students and their parents. It makes it more attainable.”
He added, “STC is a leader in innovative learning and technology, so we hope to, along with the college, create summer programs that will give our students hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields that will lead to advancement. Thank you STC; your initiatives are opening borders and breaking barriers.”
STC Dean for Dual Credit Programs and School District Partnerships Rebecca De Leon said the first cohort of this partnership beginning in spring 2023 will students’ way toward individual career paths.
“This is going to provide a seamless transition for Integrity School students to STC or to any university of their choice upon graduating from high school,” said De Leon. “These partnerships are fulfilling the college’s vision to be a global model in educational innovation serving as a catalyst to drive regional prosperity, economic development and social mobility of those we serve.”
Reynosa area students pay a minimal fee to enroll in dual credit.
