The McAllen Youth Apprenticeship Program is inviting local businesses to participate. An offering from the McAllen Chamber, South Texas College and McAllen Independent School District, the program offers apprenticeships and work to high school juniors and seniors.

A vehicle for talent development to meet future workforce needs, the program serves as a recruitment pipeline. Potential employees can also be molded and trained to a business’s specifications.

The Chamber, STC and MISD will host a Q&A session about the program on May 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the McAllen Chamber, 1200 Ash Ave.

Businesses who have interest can begin the program process by:

  1. Identifying and developing the job description (STC will match DOL guidelines for certification)
  2. Identifying a number of hours per week the business would like to offer
  3. Establishing the hourly rate of pay

For youth participating in the program, it provides classroom education, on the job training and wages..

The Chamber, STC and MISD will host a Q&A session about the program on May 2 at 8:30 a.m. at the McAllen Chamber, 1200 Ash Ave.

Those interested in attending may RSVP by contacting Gerry Garcia at 956-682-2871.
