Tawil Named New McAllen City Manager

Isaac TawilMcAllen Mayor Javer Villalobos and the McAllen City Commission have selected Isaac Tawil as McAllen’s next city manager, following a comprehensive and competitive search. Tawil brings experience in public administration, leadership and community engagement to the role, as well as legal expertise.

The City of McAllen invites the community to join in welcoming Tawil at an upcoming reception on Aug. 26 at 4:30 p.m. at McAllen City Hall, Commission Chamber Foyer, 1300 W. Houston Ave., third floor, prior to the McAllen City Commission. Tawil will officially assume the role on Sept. 13 at 5 p.m.

Tawil has more than 13 years of experience in municipal government, most recently serving as the city attorney with the City of McAllen since 2021. Before that, he led the department’s litigation efforts as an assistant city attorney for nine years. In both roles, he spearheaded numerous contracts that cemented economic development initiatives, furthered public safety agreements, improved infrastructure projects and financing, guided emergency management outreach and promoted international compacts, as well as representing the City of McAllen in civil lawsuits, while protecting taxpayers. 

“We are excited to name Isaac as the new leader for the City of McAllen,” said McAllen Mayor Javier VIllabos. “His proven leadership and vision will be instrumental in guiding our city to meet new opportunities ahead. We look forward to working together to achieve our shared goals.”

Tawil expressed enthusiasm about being named city manager stating, “I am honored to have been selected as the next city manager for the City of McAllen. This is a vibrant community with a rich history and a bright future, and I am eager to work with the City Commission and staff to build on the accomplishments for the benefit of our residents and visitors.”

Prior to working with the City of McAllen, Tawil worked in private practice. 

Tawil earned a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and his Doctor of Jurisprudence from St. Mary’s University School of Law.  Tawil is a member of Past-President of Temple Emanuel. He is married with two sons and one daughter.

Tawil succeeds City Manager Roel “Roy” Rodriguez who has served the city with dedication and distinction for over 20 years in various capacities.
